Somewhere between dreams and reality, LUZIA cleverly leads you through the places, faces and sounds of traditional and modern Mexico, from urban settings like an old movie set and a smoky dance hall to the natural worlds of the ocean and arid desert.
The Culturally Inspired Themes of LUZIA
The set design, costumes, acrobatic performances, and music of LUZIA explore many themes linked to the culture, history, and mythology of Mexico.
Throughout the show, you’ll encounter concepts like the idea of speed and superhuman effort, rain in all its shapes and forms, the monumentality of Mexico’s natural landscapes and architectural wonders, and the animal spirit living within us all.
Using Water as Inspiration
In Mexico, there are as many types of rain as there are clouds that produce it. In LUZIA, the element of water and rain opens many new possibilities for the cast and creators.
From the CYR Wheel and Trapeze to the Aerial Straps act, the way performers interact with rain is truly original. In fact, LUZIA marks the first time in Cirque du Soleil history the element of rain has been integrated with a Big Top show.
